Weekenders Golf Club

Avoiding Slow Play

  • KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT OF YOU
    • Focus on keeping pace with the group in front of you

  • PLAY READY GOLF
    • Where order of play is based on who's ready, not who's away. There is no penalty for playing out of turn in stroke play.

  • KEEP AN EYE ON EACH OTHER'S SHOTS
    • Help look for lost balls AFTER YOU HAVE HIT YOUR SHOT. If all four members are looking for the ball at the same time, the group has come to a screeching halt

  • AS CART DRIVER, DROP OF YOUR PASSENGER AT HIS BALL AND IMMEDIATELY GO TO YOUR BALL
    • Do not wait for him to hit unless you would be in the line of flight

  • IF YOU ARE THE PASSENGER AND ARE UNSURE OF WHICH CLUB TO HIT
    • Take several clubs and sent the driver on his way

  • IF YOUR NEXT SHOT IS A WEDGE OR CHIP TO THE GREEN
    • Take your putter with you and tell the driver to go on without you

  • USE THE CONTINUOUS PUTTING RULE WHEVER POSSIBLE
    • You may choose to put out to increase your group's pace of play

  • NEVER RECORD SCORES AT THE GREEN
    • Do it at the next tee box

  • AFTER YOU HIT A SHOT
    • Climb into the cart holding your clubs, clean and put them away at the next shot

  • USE THE TIME GETTING TO YOUR BALL TO THINK ABOUT THE NEXT SHOT
    • i.e., yardage & club selection. When you reach your ball you'll spend less time figuring it out

  • BEGIN READING THE GREEN AND YOUR PUTTING LINE AS SOON AS YOU REACH THE GREEN
    • Don't wait until it's your turn to putt to start the process, so when it's your turn you can step up and putt

  • NEVER DELAY A STROKE BECAUSE OF CONVERSATION WITH YOUR PARTNER
    • Put the conversation on hold, make your shot, then pick up where you left off

  • IF USING A CART ON CART PATH ONLY DAY
    • Take more than one club with you when you leave the cart. Getting to your ball with the wrong club is a HUGE time-waster on the course.

  • WHEN LEAVING THE GREEN
    • Don't fuss with your putter or other clubs, Get in the cart and drive to the next tee then put your clubs away

  • ON THE TEE, WATCH YOUR PARTNERS DRIVE
    • If they lose sight of the ball, you can help direct them to it and avoid searching for it

  • WHEN WAITING ON THE TEE FOR A GROUP TO CLEAR THE FAIRWAY
    • Don't be so strict on hitting order, let the short hitter that can't reach the group ahead hit first

  • CARRY EXTRA TEES, MARKERS & BALLS IN YOUR POCKET
    • So you don't have to return to your bag if you need one

  • PUTT OUT WHENEVER POSSIBLE
